Grand Prix Golf Club
Play this one if you play only one. Grand Prix is quietly rated as one of the best courses in all of Thailand — and almost nobody outside the country has heard of it. Designed by Thai architects Prayard Chinnaraj and Prachin Eamlumnow, the course stretches 7,111 yards through rolling terrain with mountain views on the back nine and conditioning that rivals Bangkok’s premium clubs.
The backstory is as good as the golf: the owner runs the Bangkok Motor Show, and each hole is sponsored by a different car brand. The buggies have sport alloy wheels. It’s theatrical in the best way — a championship-quality course that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
About 2.5 hours from Bangkok. Worth every minute.
Mission Hills Golf Club Kanchanaburi
One of only three Jack Nicklaus designs in Thailand (alongside Mission Hills Phuket and a course in Khao Yai). This one sits on the banks of the River Kwai, with jungle hillside framing visible from most holes. At 7,046 yards, the course features several signature Nicklaus elements: five holes with double fairways (offering strategic route choices off the tee), an island green on hole 17, and waste bunkers that blend the course into the surrounding terrain.
The 90-room resort on-site makes this the most practical overnight option — play in the afternoon, stay the night, explore the River Kwai area the next morning.

Blue Sapphire Golf & Resort
The cheapest and most unusual course in this guide. Blue Sapphire was literally built on a former sapphire mine — the excavation pits are now emerald-blue lakes that come into play across 36 holes (Canyon Course and Ocean Course). The setting is otherworldly: steep canyon walls, turquoise water, and jungle canopy where you’d normally expect cart paths.
A condition caveat: reviews note that greens are generally decent but fairways, tees, and bunkers can be inconsistent. You’re paying for the setting and the story more than pristine conditioning. The resort offers houseboat accommodation on one of the mine lakes — a detail no other golf resort in Thailand can match.
About 3 hours from Bangkok. The farthest drive, but the most memorable arrival.
Artitaya Kanchanaburi Golf & Resort — Price on Inquiry
The most theatrical course on this list. Designed by Mitsuaki Kobayashi with 27 holes, Artitaya’s signature moment is the replica of the Bridge on the River Kwai visible behind the 6th green. The par-3 3rd hole crosses a jungle suspension bridge. The River Kwai itself is visible from the 4th fairway. No other golf course in the world offers this combination of WWII history, jungle drama, and sheer visual spectacle.
An honest note: Artitaya’s conditioning has declined from its peak. Service and facilities aren’t what they were. Come for the experience and the setting, not for immaculate fairways. Getting Here: The Bangkok Day Trip
There’s no airport in Kanchanaburi — this is a road trip. All four courses are 2–3 hours west of Bangkok by car, with good highways for most of the journey and rural roads for the final stretch.
Day trip option: Leave Bangkok at 5:30–6:00 AM, tee off by 9:00, play 18, and drive back in the afternoon. It works, but it’s a long day.
Overnight option (recommended): All four courses have resort accommodation on-site. Drive out in the morning, play in the afternoon, sleep at the course, and drive back the next day. This also gives you time to visit the Bridge on the River Kwai, the JEATH War Museum, or Hellfire Pass Memorial — all within easy reach.
Grab and ride-hailing work in Kanchanaburi town but not reliably to the more remote courses. A rental car or pre-arranged driver from Bangkok is the most practical approach.
Beyond Golf: River Kwai & WWII History
Golf is the excuse. Kanchanaburi’s real draw is its wartime history and natural landscape. Between rounds, the Bridge on the River Kwai (the real one), the Death Railway, Hellfire Pass Memorial, and the JEATH War Museum are all within reach. The Erawan National Park waterfall system — seven tiers of turquoise pools — is one of Thailand’s most spectacular natural sites and about an hour from the golf courses. Kanchanaburi is the rare golf trip where the off-course experiences genuinely compete with the golf.
